GOOD INTENTIONS:

I originally intended to merely return the 650 to stock condition by replacing the windshield, rebuilding the front suspension, and doing a little bodywork on the bumper and bellypan.

PICS FROM TIME OF PURCHASE:
The windshield had already been replaced but you can see the duct taped seat, rusted front suspension, bent nose, patched exhaust pipe, and other cosmetic issues.

SURE, IT'S STOCK:

Like many of my fellow snowmobilers, I eventually succumbed to the need for more. Fall came around and ebay came calling. What I ended up with isn't quite stock anymore.

RESULTS:

Well, I'm impressed with how fast a 16 year old sled can be. I can see why the 650 was so popular in its heyday. It doesn't come on all that strong until about 6000 rpm and from there until it finishes at 9400, it's a rush. I was used to the power of the Rotax 583s and the difference is amazing. Keep it in that rpm range and response is instantaneous.

MORE CHANGES:

I'm back at it... A blown MAG side crank seal gave me the excuse to build a sleeper 650. I'm in the process of replacing the stock 650 cylinders with cylinders and heads off a 96 RXL that have been outfitted with Aaen's 732cc big bore kit. I recently finished painting the heads to fit with the old 650 color scheme and am working on having the crankcase bored to fit the cylinders.
